Seven Lehman Spring '13 Tech Initiatives

imageA key goal at Lehman is to ensure that our students have access to the technologies and resources they need in a world that is increasingly fast-paced, mobile and hyper-connected.  We are pleased to share several planned technology initiatives as Lehman's spring semester gets underway. These projects reflect a collaborative effort across campus departments to enhance student success:

1)  Our Mobile Printing pilot is now available to all students. This initiative allows students to launch a print job from any mobile device or off-campus computer.  It's as easy as sending an email and will be held in your print queue for 48-hours. Just go to any release station in the IT Open Center or in the Library and print your document. This tool was developed at the request of students that needed a faster way to print before their classes started. Here's more information.

2)  Lehman Digital Connect will be our very own video library, similar to YouTube. Digital Connect will provide a new way to experience the exciting events taking place on Lehman's historic campus. The new video library will also allow Lehman faculty to record their lectures and make them available to students or the larger community.  We are thrilled to pilot this new "lecture capture" capability.

3)  Lehman students will soon experience a more advanced Wireless Network. Using improved technologies, the enhanced network will be more robust and more secure. While these enhancements will be campus-wide, three locations will see significant wireless improvements, Science Hall, the Library and the Quad - the outdoor space between the Music Building and the Old Gym.

4) Lehman Student Connect will be a unique new one-stop shop to help students find information and resources quickly. Look for more information on Student Connect later in the semester.

5)  Student Express stations will be perfect when you need a computer to quickly look-up information or check Facebook. Funded by Tech Fee, these stations will be installed in the IT Open Center, the Library and in the newly renovated Student Life building (to re-open later in the semester).

6) Group Study Rooms meet the increasing need for students to work collaboratively, and we are proud to have partnered with the Library to outfit four new spaces. Another Tech Fee initiative, these Library rooms are perfect for students that need to create group projects and presentations. The rooms are available now and feature the ability to display and share tablets or laptops on a large screen. Look for additional collaboration spaces over the next year.

7)  "Getting IT" - Students have a variety of Lehman and CUNY accounts to manage, including email, Blackboard and CUNYfirst, among others. To help students learn more and navigate these accounts, feel free to attend a seminar.  Click here for a schedule.

We are looking for new ways to engage students as active participants in their educational experience and we invite your comments and feedback on these initiatives.  We'll keep you updated on the status of these projects on the video boards in the IT Center at Carman Hall.
